Choose from three tracks based on your goals

The department offers three degree-program tracks to support you in your academic and professional career path:

  • MS in Economics: Course-Based track

    An 8-course program that can be completed in one year, without a thesis.

  • MS in Economics: Research-Based track with Master's Thesis*

    A 13-course program to be completed in two years, with a master's thesis.
  • MS in Economics: Research-Based track with Experiential Learning*

    A 13-course program to be completed in two years, with the option for a research assistantship or internship.

*All students are initially accepted into the course-based track and may apply to either of the research-based tracks at the end of the second semester. All tracks carry STEM certification.

For International Applicants

  • TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo scores are required, if applicable.
  • If admitted, confirm enrollment by April 15 for fall admission.
  • The Tufts International Center issues visa document forms and offers support.

GRE General Test scores are not required for applicants who will have received a degree from a U.S. or Canadian institution by the time of enrollment. GRE scores are required for all other applicants.
