Students in the MS in Artificial Intelligence program will learn from experts operating at the leading-edge of AI development. With a long-standing commitment to social good, Tufts School of Engineering faculty and students work together to examine the social and ethical contexts in which AI is deployed. Receive mentorship from faculty and industry professionals who are internationally recognized leaders in AI-powered robotics, computer vision, machine learning, data analysis, decision-making, and assistive technology.

For International Applicants

  • TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo scores are required, if applicable.
  • If admitted, confirm enrollment by April 15 for fall admission or December 1 for spring admission.
  • The Tufts International Center issues visa document forms and offers support.

GRE General Test scores not required for applicants who will have received a degree from a U.S. or Canadian institution by time of enrollment. GRE scores required for all other applicants.

The Tufts International Center supports students and their dependents throughout their Tufts experience including assistance in visa processing, work authorization, and cultural acclimation. Special programs such as Thanksgiving programming, winter housing, and pairing with a local host are offered each year.

Become an Expert in AI

Designed for students with a background in computer science, mathematics, or a related technical field, the MS in artificial intelligence curriculum covers core AI concepts and techniques—including machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and knowledge representation.

Students gain hands-on experience through projects, co-ops and internships, learning to apply AI algorithms and tools to real-world problems. Coursework balances the theoretical foundations of AI with the practical skills, ethics and societal impacts of our world today.

The program includes a core curriculum and department-specific tracks:

  • Core Curriculum: In-depth concepts in artificial intelligence, machine learning, ethics, and mathematics.

  • MSAI – Computer Science: Core principles and applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence from a computational perspective, with a strong emphasis on the broader social context in which AI technologies are developed and implemented.

  • MSAI – Electrical and Computer Engineering: Core principles of machine learning and artificial general intelligence with specialized engineering domain knowledge, covering both fundamental and systems concepts in AI and how to apply these methods to diverse domains.

Students will develop an ability to understand, implement, and deploy a wide range of AI technologies across disciplines, and they'll have the opportunity to work closely with faculty every step of the way. Collaborate with and learn from some of the most renowned experts in the country, all while seamlessly transitioning from graduate studies to a full-time career.
